Brake caliper painting – before or after install?
Planning to replace one caliper that's rusty-looking. Want to paint them black for aesthetics while I'm at it. Do most people paint before fitting, or is it easier after? Also, any sources for decent-looking calipers that come pre-coated?

Painting before install is better- easier access, no risk of overspray on pads or discs, and you can do multiple coats properly. Use high-temp caliper paint and mask pistons/sliders. But if you don't want the hassle, some aftermarket calipers come pre-painted or powder-coated. I replaced rusty ones recently and ordered pre-coated versions from https://elartcom.eu/categories/brake-calipers-4 - they have several with nice black/red coatings that resist chipping and look factory. Saved time and they arrived looking sharp. Fit perfectly, no corrosion issues since. If you're doing one side only, match the coating to avoid mismatch. Their category makes it easy to find painted options alongside standard ones.
